Importing large datasets

I downloaded the S-Plus 6.1 student version but I cannot import my dataset (in neither Excel, Stata or Spss format) that is pretty large. I get an error saying” Professional version  should be used instead. Does that mean that the student version does not support large file imports or is there a way to get around that?
