Thanks to all who responded to my question. I am fairly new to S+ and I
confess I had not thought of looking in the history file, although I was
aware of it. I apologize for asking a somewhat stupid question. I am
trying to focus on doing everything from the command line and only resort to
the GUI in a pinch.
However, now that I've read the replies and played with the history file for
awhile, I see that it is not really what I was looking for. As many said in
their responses, the commands produced in the history file by the GUI are
not the same as would be used directly in the command window. Although they
would probably have the same effect for the current version of S plus, I
would worry about upward compatibility and portability to other platforms.
I have dealt with this issue with other software where commands generated by
the menu system do not always work under a different windowing system - I'm
thinking PC to X here.
Someone mentioned a way to increase the detail of the history file under the
Options window but I don't have the menu picks they listed. I only get to
say how many Undo and how many History entries under the
Options/Undo-History menu. I'm using version 4.5.
Thomas Stockton also suggested "just drag the graph to a script window and
there it is." This sounds intriguing but it doesn't seem to work on the PC.
Am I missing something?
