Dear S+ users
While I have been generally delighted with the usability and performance of
SPlus 2000 under NT4.0, the program has crashed 3 or so times in the last
two weeks with a message from Dr. Watson. Upon reopening SPlus, _most_
objects do not appear in the Explorer window, but they seem to behave
properly when accessed and manipulated from the Commands window. For
example, they are listed when objects() is invoked. In short, only the
functionality of the Explorer, (which is quite useful in this version of S+)
seems to be damaged by these crashes. My questions are:
1) Is there an easy way to restore the visibility of all of the objects in
in the Explorer after a crash, or to make sure that they do appear after a
crash?
2) Are the crashes preventable?
Re: question 1, I have been able to restore the Explorer's functionality,
but only one object at a time.
I have generally been successful in recovering the "lost:" objects as
follows. 1: Use the find routine to locate the object--it will appear in the
Explorer's right pane, but its data class is "character". 2: Double clicking
the object in the Explorer window causes the object to be displayed as a
data sheet. 3: After closing the data sheet the object's proper data class
appears in the right pane of the Explorer, and it behaves normally within
the Explorer thereafter. It works, but it's tedious.
As to question 2, I am running the SETI client software, and I once found a
formerly live S-Plus session to be dead after returning to work and
interrupting SETI( which runs after a period of inactivity, like a screen
saver would). But not all of the crashes occurr while the SETI software is
active, so I doubt that SETI is to blame.
Any help would be appreciated
