I'm using Splus4.5, release 2, under Windows 95.
Some time ago some documented the truncation of text columns
from Excel spreadsheets to 31 characters.
Now I find that the dataset likewise gets truncated, to 16383 rows
(additional to the heading). If one specifies more than 16384 rows,
then the additional rows are filled with NAs. It is not nice.
If one species e. g. rows 16485:18086, import.data responds that
it cannot find these rows. At least one is in this case warned
that something is wring.
I presume import.data is using some register that can spare only
14 bits.
