Dear All:
I need your urgent advise. My lab asked me to provide the specification of absolutely the best desktop computer currently available on the market, which would be able to do the fastest S+6 & 7 job. My colleagues would like (at this point) to avoid  Unix boxes. This requirement may seem, I believe, unreasonable to many of you, but the thing is that we need to cope with a very big and urgent project, and our people simply do not have time to study anything new. The emphasis is on speed of computation, not on the size of data, although the gigabyte size data will be pretty typical . Please give me your recommendations/experiences ASAP. I've heard something about "dual core" or "multiple core" processors, but not quite sure what it is and whether or not current versions of S+ are able to work with this new staff. I have also heard about 3.8 GigaHerz and even 6.2 GigaHerz processors but do not have any details. The question poped ou t quite unexpectedly. Please, do not hesitate to share any experience, whatever it is. My own level in understanding hardware issues is miserable.
Thank you in advance
