I have often replied outside the mail group because it is easier to just
hit the reply button than it is to look up the address of s-news in my
address book. It sounds silly, but I usually do not intend to write long
messages. The messages get longer as more and more thoughts come to me.
Another problem is that the s-news@wubios.wustl.edu is very picky. It
seems to think
that half of my letters are full of hypertext links and sends error
messages to half my messages. A few weeks ago I wrote a letter, and I
just gave up trying to mail it to the group because the centeral
controler rejected it repeatedly. For a while I thought I was locked
out. This message is a case in point. I had to send it twice. The first
time it was rejected with the error:
Your message was not posted to the s-news list because it included
HTML formatted text. If you would like your message to be posted
to
the s-news list, you must resend it to s-news@wubios.wustl.edu as a
text only file (with no HTML).
Thanks.

What would be really nice, is to have a news group. This way one could
follow the threads to conversations, rather than having to page through
all of the letters in an inbox. Another advantage of a news group is
that people could post code and large binary files in the news group
without dealing with the limitations of email. Who want 10's of Meg of
other peoples code and executables sitting in their inbox? A final
advantage of a news group is that there are no problems with hypertext
or graphics.
If other people are interested I could check out getting server space
for a news group.
