Hi. In the SPlus 2k Vol. 2 manual on page 267 where it discusses
how to identify poorly predicted subjects in a Cox model, it says "Recent
experience has shown that deviance residuals do not work well and cannot be
recommended." But later on in the lung cancer example on pg 272, they are
used for this purpose.
Why are deviance residuals not in general recommended -- but are ok
for the lung cancer example? Thank you for your time,
