I am trying to calculate rowsums of a 31x3100 matrix to use in a chisq. contigency table. splus gives me NA results for all 31. colSums works fine but rowSums gives the following.... 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8

one column of 3100 was hiding as non numeric and the entire sum is an NA, thank you There are likely non-numerical columns that must be exluded. Instead of, rowSums(dataframe), use rowSums(dataframe

why did is.matrix(data) give T ? Then you did not have a matrix but a data frame, and colSums presumably gave you one column with result NA. A matrix is all numeric or all character. Indeed one colum
