However, if you look carefully (via google) ... you can find a little .dll extension that gives you the rudiments to do file acce; /archives/html/jmp-l/2006/msg00030.html (10,280 bytes)

I did finally get a moment today to look at gzdll - which at first glance appears to be exactly what I want.
