After some further exchanges, I have put up at
http://www.stats.ox.ac.uk/pub/SWin/ESS.zip
a pre-packaged version of ESS-5.0 for NTEmacs 19.34.6, with
instructions for new Emacs users. Note that this provides S-mode
but not the ability to run S-PLUS under Emacs. (I'll put up a beta
version of that later, for experienced hackers only.) The aim
of prepackaging is to avoid the need to have a working make and tools.
