[S] Complicated (log) likelihoods

S-Plus Users,

Has anyone programmed the AT&T Wave-Soldering Skips 
example given in the S-Plus Statistics Manual under Nonlinear modeling?
 (Any one here from AT&T ?) I have a similar likelihood function 
that I'm trying to maximize.

Any help would be appreciated.
