I plan to buy/build a new PC soon, and would appreciate learning the
recommendations of S-PLUS users on features such as CPU, RAM, and OS
(Windows 98 vs. Windows NT).
I read the summary postings last March from Terry Elrod and Willem
deWinter on Windows 95 vs. Windows NT. Have opinions changed since
Windows 98 is here? These posts included a recommendation to get a
graphics cards with 8 MB RAM. Any comments on this?
I use S-PLUS (from the command line) for number crunching and graphics
production, often with large data sets. Any improvement, such as
increased speed,
reduced frequency of crashes, and
ability to multitask,
over what I'm used to with my current PC (167 MHz, 128 MB RAM, Windows
95) would keep me smiling for months.
Thanks for your input.
Respond to me, and I'll summarize to the list.
