We have developed S+ programs (muhaz)to estimate the hazard function
from right-censored (survival) data using kernel-based methods.
Program options include three types of bandwidth functions, three
types of boundary correction, and four shapes for the kernel function.
These programs use modifications of the HADES program with the kind
permission of its developer, Professor Mueller. A paper comparing the
estimators using combinations of the program options is in press in
Statistics in Medicine. For comparison to the smoothed hazard
function estimates, we have also made available a set of functions
based on piecewise exponential estimation.

A Unix version of the program and a pdf file with simulation results
comparing the various estimators are available at

in the S section.

We will post the code to statlib in a few weeks after initial user
reaction. Please send any comments on the code to Ken Hess.
