Bill Dunlap informs me that the low level nroff should be .nf/.fi
and NOT .nf/.if --- in nroff ``.if'' really does mean ``if''!
Well, using ``.if'' ***seemed*** to work when I tried it. Sorry
for any confusion I may have caused.
