ANNOUNCEMENT: Conference on Models for Multi-level Data
                    Chicago Illinois
                   Friday May 7th, 1999

This one-day conference is about modeling multi-level, or hierarchical,
data. Hierarchical data have observations at two or more levels, and are
common in many areas. Some examples are repeated measures on the same
individuals over time, students within classrooms within schools, purchases
within stores over time, and households within zip codes.

This conference will cover traditional modeling approaches as well as
recent innovations, and will be appropriate for both practicing
statisticians and academics. The speakers are leading contributors to the
analysis of multi-level data in the fields of marketing research,
biostatistics, educational research and evaluation, and psychometrics. They
include Don Hedeker (Univ. of Illinois - Chicago), Xihong Lin (Univ. of
Michigan), Jack McArdle (Univ. of Virginia); Mark Wilson (Univ. of
California - Berkeley); Peter Rossi (The Univ. of Chicago); and Greg
Allenby (Ohio State Univ.).

The conference is co-sponsored by the Chicago Chapter of the ASA and the
Department of Mathematical and Computer Sciences, Loyola University of
Chicago, and it will be held at Loyola's Watertower Campus near Chicago's
Magnificent Mile. For additional information see the Chapter's web page at
www.ChicagoASA.org, or contact Lynd Bacon of Lynd Bacon & Associates Ltd.
at lynd.bacon@lba.com, +1 (708) 957-0883, +1 (708) 957-1920 (fax). The
registration deadline is 4/30/99. Space is limited, so early registration
is advised.
