System: Windows NT SP3
Hardward: Dell dual 500Mz Pentium
Software: Splus 2000
After reinstalling the operating system, we took several precautions against
future problems. We added a shortcut on the desktop to the selfextracting
archive for service pack 3. (This is to deal with the general problem that some
applications overwrite the dll's for service pack 3 with the wrong version
dll's. S+ does not have this problem, but other programs in the future might)
We made a recovery disk using RDISK.exe, and NT boot disk using WINNT32 /OX.
Thus we are all set for a really hairy installation.
In the installation, I did not reboot when prompted to do so. I am not sure why
any program installing to NT would need to reboot, since the relevent changes
are made in the environment table (I think). But I said no, because this is
where I suffered blue death and lost the OS before.
Everything went fine untill I tried to install the Excel addins. We have other
Excell addins (most importantly TechHacker's, a large addin for pricing debt
securities), and I suffered blue death when the install shield loaded Excel. I
forgot to write the relevent information from the core dump( oops). But the
machine booted fine, and S+ 2000, seems to work ok, so far.
My experience seems to be different from the norm,

Worked OK for me, and I have virtually the identical system: Dell dual
500Mhz PIII with NT4 sv 3.
Peter Cummings writes:
I recently installed S+ 2000 on a Dell dual processor machine with NT 4
sv?. No problem. I shut off my virus checker as S+ suggested. Peter
I don't have a virus checker yet, so I didn't shut it off.

I just installed Splus 2000 onto a Dell dual 450 megahertz pentium xeon
running NT 4 sv 3 with no problems ... I've had the machine a few months
and it has a bunch of other software installed.
We have not had any reports from customers who get the "Blue Screen of
Death." My guess is that you had other, bigger problems with your
Windows-NT configuration. You may want to check the Windows-NT 'Event
Viewer' log for details(accessible via the
"Programs | Administrative Tools | Event Viewer" menu) of error
messages and possible system problems.
I forgot to do this. I am still learning NT, so I will dully note this for the
future.
I guess I am just unlucky?
