Summarizing what I received as answers, about ten people would very much like
GIF and JPEG device drivers, but there was no reaction as to why they are not
there.
I received several proposals on different types of conversion from
PostScript, but that's not the point. This solution relies on third party
tools, creates an overhead by going from PS to JPEG or GIF and maybe
something else in between, and it potentially introduces new problems.
It's just striking that the drivers differ so much between S-Plus for Windows
and Unix.
