The problem is that the list can be written to by anybody, and
spammers do. Most spam is fairly easy to filter, and the list host
site could have filtered this one. (It was "direct to MX spam", and
could have been filtered by looking up the sending machine in the DUL
at mail-abuse.org, for anyone who is interested.) It could also have
been filtered at the source; it originated at
"01-055.031.popsite.net", so you could complain to "abuse@megapop.net"
about it.

Personally, I'd recommend complaining to Megapop. They make money
from the spammer.

Complaining to the people who run the list seems like pretty bad
manners to me: they're volunteers, and setting up spam filters takes
time. Offering to help with running the list sounds like a better
option.
