Thanks to those who wrote to give me advice on extracting the parameters of
the error correlation function from the lmeObject. If the lmeObject is
named "fit" the solution appears to be
to get the error s.d. fit$sigma
to get the correlation parameters coef((fit$modelStruct)$corStruct,F)
