Hello,

I am learning Splus 4.5 to run data collected for graduation paper. My
interest is in variance component analysis. I just finish chapter 14 and
tackled exercise on pigment paste data. My understanding is that when my
model is written "Moisture~Batch/Sampl", Splus treats "Test" as residual.
When the model is "Moisture~Batch/Sampl/Test", the sum of squares for
residual is 0. In Box, Hunter & Hunter, Statistics for Experiments, p.582,
it is shown that sum of squares for average or intercept (according to SPSS
output) is 43040.8. Splus 4.5 doesn't display sum of squares for the
intercept. I created a column of 1's, called it "Constant" and then run the
model "Moisture~Batch/Sampl/Test, Constant"; the program dumped. My
questions are:
1) How can I obtain sum of squares for intercept term?
2) How can I get ANOVA table displayed when using the commands window?
3) What is the model in presence of concomitant variables? Can it be, e.g.,
"Moisture~Batch/Sampl/Test, Concomitant1, Concomitant2, Concomitant3"

I cross fingers to read your reply very soon.

Best regards,

Ray Haraf.
