I am using S-Plus 6.0 on Linux. I've sent this note to
support@splus.mathsoft.com along with an example file but thought
that others should be aware of this and might possibly have a
workaround.

When I restore a dumpdata format file created in pre-version 6 in which
a variable has a user-defined class, the classes are changed in the
resulting imported variable. A numeric variable having class
"labelled" imports with two classes: "labelled" and "factor".
A date variable with classes "labelled" and "dates" imports with
classes "labelled" and "factor".
