Thanks, I very much appreciated that discussion. My question is "what is
data mining anyway?" That is, I know in general what it is, but not how to
do it. A collection of automatic techniques provides no automation without
guidance on which ones to use. I would really appreciate a pointer to a
text or other resource which would unify "data mining" to some degree and
provide guidance, at least to someone with some experience in statistical
modeling. (My particular applications are environmental, hydrologic, and
geographic.)
