axis problem

Hello all, 
Before I go and do the standard issue "delete _Prefs folder", I thought I would 
see if this sounded familiar to anyone. 

Two x-axis attributes are apparently stuck in one position: XAxis minimum is 
always = 0, and x-axis MajorTickPlacement is always = 3. This occurs for any 
type of plot (box, scatter, etc.), and with both
command- and gui-generated plots. 

Any ideas?
