Hi list,
Here is the question:-
Say, i have an soils image ( 64x64 pixels) and i have the permeability
values at each pixel. We can easily calculate the variogram and also the
covariogram for this image ( i have done this by converting the image to a
vector). Now what i intend to investigate is, if we do a DWT ( in 2d) on
the same image using "HAAR" wavelets ( i have choosen this particular
wavelet for simplicity of analysis ) can we somehow try to reproduce the
covariogram/variogram (atleast approximately) from the coefficients of the
DWT??
I read something called SCALOGRAMS recently( "Analysis and Elucidation of
soils variation using wavelets" by R.M.Lark and R.Webster, European
Journal of Soil Science, June 1999, Vol 50, 185-206). And apart from
the above cited paper, there seems to be few articles which refer to
"Wavelet Variance" . So is there any way one could calculate the variogram
atleast approximately from the coefficients of 2D DWT???
Any suggestions would be of great help.
regards
reddy
