Formatting line length

This is a basic question that I can't seem to fix satisfactorily.  How
do I set the line length in report (.srp) files?  When I click on an
object (.lm, .lme, etc) to display it in a report file, the line length
appears to be at the whim of the object.  I feel like I am dealing with
an unruly pet.
