General Duties/Description:
Interested in the latest environmental issues in the Pacific
Northwest? Would you like to make a contribution to the current salmon
restoration effort? Columbia Basin Research (CBR) is a research unit in
the nationally top-ranked School of Aquatic and Fishery Sciences of the
University of Washington, working on the technological edge of
quantifying wildlife population and evaluating population management
effectiveness. The applicant should be someone willing to pioneer
research in a highly topical field to accurately assess survival
processes in the Columbia Basin.
Description
Develop new statistical methods for design and analysis of animal
tagging studies. Develop new statistical software to analyze fish and
wildlife tagging studies. Analyze historical tagging data. Write
technical reports and peer-reviewed papers. Provide project
administration including proposal writing and interaction with
sponsors. Provide public presentation of research findings. Provide
technical assistance to researchers from a variety of public agencies
on tagging issues.
Requirements:
PhD in statistics, biometry, or fisheries with experience in parameter
estimation with applications to environmental sciences. Experience in
analyzing fish and wildlife data with special emphasis on statistical
theory. Familiarity with maximum likelihood estimation and
mark-recapture theory strongly desired, Ability to work independently
to develop statistical methods, carry out analyses of complex data
sets, and present research findings in written and verbal forms
necessary. Experience with UNIX.
Salary: Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
