Out of interest, I tried installing S-Plus 2k on SoftWindows95 on my Mac
laptop (a 240MHz PB3400 with 144MB RAM; I disremember the size of the
virtual C: drive, but it is several hundred MB).

For reasons of disk space and spare time available I opted for the minimum
install option.

During the installation I got error messages about not being able to find
sqpe.dll (though on looking for it later, it is installed), and another
message about "[something]_api".

On starting S-Plus I get the following

Working data will be in C:\Program Files\sp2000\users\Ju
                lian Wells\_Data
There were 14 warnings (use warnings() to see them)

which resulted in

Generating some random data and charting it from the command line seemed to
work OK.

Can anyone shed any light on what is going on?

Apart from anything else, why does S-Plus attach so much importance to the
square root of 21?
