Dear s-news, Help and local support,
I have just received version 6 as a free upgrade to splus2000. I decided to
uninstall splus2000 and have installed splus version 6 (upgrade) to save
space on the computer. The instructions are not too clear about advantages
and disadvantages of installing over the original. I left the file in
\windows\system which was said not to be used by other programs when
uninstalling.
I have a pentium III 500MHz with Windows 98 (not second edition, for this
reason I have not installed version 8 of SAS) 128 meg of Ram and sufficient
space on the hard disk.
In case DDE will be necessary I will get the patch mentioned in the
instructions (today the university network is down).
The help file does not have the small square (full screen) as an option on
the upper right corner and it does not fit completely on the screen so
consulting it is not perfect; I have to push down the system tray. Is there
a fix and do others have this problem?
I am curious why one has to shut down the antivirus before installing; this
is not specifically mentioned by other products. I did shut it down,
because it does not innoculate (Mcafee), but I remember that other
antivirus products on other computers in the past, if shut down during
installation, have gotten upset some time after installation, reporting
that files got changed. (About 2 months after installing Linux at home,
Norton antivirus told me the mbr had been changed and that this could be
dangerous, so I let it try to repair the system - forgetting of course
because of the 2-month delay - and it wouldn't boot at all from either
windows or Linux. With a Linux boot disk I managed to fix everything up,
but this has made me wary of shutting down antivirus programs when installing.)
Arrivederci from Italia,
Leona Bassein
