S-Plus question

Help, S-Plus gurus,

I am using a new installation of S-Plus 2000, and to my surprise, the menu
dialogue boxes do not appear in the usual form as
indicated in the "help" documentation.  I am getting dialogue boxes that
have cells requesting "return variable, argument 1, argument 2, ...".
Surely something simple needs to be set, but I can't figure out the
problem.  Any suggestions?
