To answer your question - changing the PATH statement as you indicated
is not a problem. I have had no problems running Splus under Windows ME
but I haven't used a version that old so I don't know if there are any
other issues with Splus 3.3 that need to be considered. I have used
Splus 2000 and Splus 6 for Windows without any installation problems
under WinME.

Hope that helps,

Michael Conklin

Windows ME is NOTHING like Windows 2000!!!! It's the worst every
Windows
implementation.

 Save yourself the aggravation and go buy Windows 2000.

Hello!

To recover from an equipment failure, I need to install my Windows-95
based
S-Plus version 3.3 software onto a PC laptop running Windows Millenium
(which is similar to Windows 2000). Doing so directly does not
install
reliably. As best as I can make out, the reason for this is that
Windows
Millenium has its AUTOEXEC.BAT file in the directory
C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\EBD
and not in the root directory C:\ so that the path command does not
get
updated from
SET PATH=C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND
to
SET PATH=C:\SPLUSWIN\CMD;C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND.

The Windows Millenium AUTOEXEC.BAT file has a line in it which reads
PATH=C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND.
Is it safe to update this line to read
PATH=C:\SPLUSWIN\CMD;C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND
and does anyone know whether this will allow S-Plus 3.3 to run
reliably?

I would also like to ask the same question for S-Plus version 4.3.

Please reply by e-mailing directly to: andrey@utstat.toronto.edu

With thanks in advance,
