Windows 2000 was a disaster for me. One good thing came out
of it after spending a lot of time trying to get
applications that ran on Win98 working on 2000: I wiped the hard disk
clean and went to Linux, never to return to Microsoft. [Some
of the problems were due to applications that needed to change
the registry which required me to constantly log out and
log back in as Administrator. Others such as Dragon Systems
voice recognition software simply would not work under 2000
without an expensive upgrade.]
This reminds me of the story about the wake for a
man who was known throughout the community as being
lazy and dishonest. The minister asked if anyone wanted to say
anything on behalf of the deceased. After a long,
embarrassing pause, someone from the back of the
church said "his brother was worse."
Windows ME is the brother.
While I'm on my quarterly anti-Microsoft sermon let me
state my lack of understanding why people are spending
so much time on Visual Basic interfaces. Why not use
an open source solution (even on a Windows platform)
that does not limit which platform you can run on?
You might have your fill of Bill Gates someday too.
