I don't have any direct answers for these problems, but as a general point
"unpredictable" behaviour, especially when it involves the interaction of S
functions, S-PLUS GUIs, and probably other factors as well, is very
difficult to diagnose from a single email. The entire environment, enough
to reproduce the problem, is really needed to make progress.
Rather than indulging s-news, a problem like this is probably more suited to
Insightful's technical support department, who will be able to identify
whether this is due to a bug, programming error, or something else. As with
all support problems, please be sure to indicate your S-PLUS version and
operating system.
Lest I be misconstrued, this is not an attempt to stifle discussion about
problems with S-PLUS! There are simply some problems which are better
suited to paid technical support.
