Hi all,
        Perhaps Sam is correct in his suspicion?
        I am using S-PLUS 6.0 release 2 as well, and I get dos("dir") to
return without incident. I am running WinNT Service Pack 6.

I don't have this problem with the exact same version of S-Plus. However,
I'm running Windows 2000, 5.00.2195 service pack 2. Could this be the
difference?

Under Splus6 recently installed (Professional Edition Version 6.0.3
Release 2 for Microsoft Windows : 2001 / Windows98 SE), the dos()
systematically crashes my computer when called with output.to.S=T, even
with a simple command like "dir"
