There is a version of hist() that supports this.
This comes with the beta version of the next generation
of S+ bootstrap/resampling software; see
        http://www.insightful.com/Hesterberg/bootstrap/default.asp
for an overview of the software. If you would like to test this,
please respond to
        bootstrap-beta@insightful.com
and indicate
        * your name and email
        * what version of S-PLUS you are using, on what machine -- you
          can get this by typing "version" at the command line.
