Thanks to Stephen Kaluzny and Ray Brownrigg who
replied me.

My original question is:
************************************************************
Does anybody know how to convert old maps database
to new one?

We have our own datafiles(*.G, *.L, *.N) under the library/maps/data
directory. But they do not work on S-PLUS 6.0.

Here is a summary of the answer I received.

The binary format for maps database files under S-PLUS for Windows 6.x
is the same as the binary format for S-PLUS for Linux. If you have your
database files built for Linux you can use the same files under Windows.
You can also use the maps tools under Linux (Gmake, Lmake) to create new
binary maps database files and then move those files over to Windows.

I'll have a look at it. We are in a similar situation. We have our
own databases, but at the moment do not use S-Plus 6.0 for them (we use
R under Unix).

It seems to be required to recompile mapfiles with appropriate
compiler.

Thank you very much!
