thanks to Sven Knudsen, Tobias Meyer, Steve Friedman and Allan Spessa who
replied with suggestions on my 'Linking SPLUS and Remote Sensing' question.
Some answers I got suggested the read/write.table functions, IDL, and the
new block-read and -write in S-PLUS 6 (book: Introduction to S-PLUS for
Windows).
Another suggestion was to contact University of Zurich, Professors Klaus
Itten, Daniel Nuesch: www.geo.unizh.ch/rsl/
Overall, I encountered mixed opinions on the use of SPLUS with large
imagery.
Currently, I am trying to explore the issue more in depth, and will let you
know if something else comes up.
Thanks and best regards
Falk

Subject: [S] SPLUS and Remote Sensing ?
Dear Colleagues,
if I may ask, I am looking for advise and shared experiences on how to
use
SPLUS efficiently with Remote Sensing images and RS software.
Some of the images have app. half a million pixels, and since most of
them
have over 6 bands, that leaves us with a huge
set of data points to run for instance a simple PCA or correlation
matrix
even.
Thanks for the information and best regards
F.
