This course covers a broad spectrum of topics from importing data to fitting
statistical models. At the conclusion of the course the student will have a
working knowledge of the syntax of the S-PLUS language and tools for a wide
range of application areas. Both traditional and trellis graphs will be
explored. In addition to function writing in the context of graphing and
statistics, the course will present tools for creating dialog boxes and
connecting to C-code. The material is presented in the Windows environment, but
Unix information is provided where necessary.

This course is for users with some previous experience with S-PLUS. It is
designed for data analysts and other research workers who will be using the
system fairly extensively for their daily work. Such users will typically need
to use the system as a programming language for non-standard calculations as
well as a pre-written system for standard ones. This course is designed to make
programming in S-PLUS effective, efficient and easy.

Statistical Modeling in S-PLUS

This three-day course covers the modeling methods available with the latest
version of S-PLUS. We present a brief introduction and background of several
modeling methods, which include linear, ANOVA, generalized linear, generalized
additive, tree based, nonlinear, mixed effects, and survival models. Using
real world data, we will focus on fitting a model and interpreting the results.
A brief introduction to model fitting at the graphical user interface provides
an illustration of the ease with which model fitting can be done in this
environment.
