Mathematical Statistician

The USDA Center for Veterinary Biologics is seeking a statistician who is a
good communicator comfortable dealing with practical scientific issues.
The position is in the Center's biometrics unit, which provides statistical
services and consulting to scientific reviewers.
An ideal candidate would be familiar with various approaches to statistical
estimation and inference, skilled in the design, analysis, and
interpretation of scientific studies, and able to apply statistical
principles to specific problems in applied disciplines. The ability to
write and speak effectively is important in order to clearly communicate
recommendations and interpret analyses. Familiarity with biomedical
applications is a plus, but not essential. It is more important to have a
critical but open mind, a desire to learn, and the ability to communicate
with scientists and regulators.
The USDA Center for Veterinary Biologics regulates vaccines, diagnostics,
and other immunobiologics used to manage animal diseases. It is located in
beautiful Ames, Iowa, where it maintains close affiliation with Iowa State
University. Ames is known for its stimulating cultural environment,
pleasant surroundings, and stable economy. It was ranked second out of 189
other small cities by The New Rating Guide to Life in America's Small
Cities. The Center for Veterinary Biologics shares a 500 acre campus with
the National Animal Disease Center and the National Veterinary Services
Laboratories. It is located 40 minutes north of Des Moines International
Airport.
