Dear All,

I've seen evidence that there is a spam/virus attack against addresses
harvested off the S-news list. A number of familiar names from S-news
(including my own) have been showing up in forged headers, with a
Windows virus attached. I recognize a number of S-news participants among
the addresses from which I am receiving bounces.

What to do:

(1) don't get mad at the person whose name appears on the From line, he/she
probably has nothing to do with it.

(2) make sure your virus protections are up to date, especially if you are
using a Windows-based mail system.

(3) never open attachments (again I am speaking to Windows users) without
knowing precisely what they are; don't trust them just because of the
familiar name on the From line.

I wish I had some good advice about how to filter out this garbage, but
I don't.

        regards to all
        Alan Zaslavsky
