Funding is available for one PhD position in Mathematical Statistics
at the Swiss Federal Research Institute WSL.
WSL (http://www.wsl.ch; English page is also available) is one of the
leading research institutes in the environmental sciences in Switzerland.
The head office, where the student will be working, is located close to the
city of Zurich (http://www.zuerich.com/).
The research topic involves among others, smoothing methods for time series
data from palaeo-ecology. The work will involve methodological developments
as well as data applications.
The suitable candidate will be a motivated person, willing to work in a
very interdisciplinary atmosphere and have strong background in Statistics
or Mathematics. In the latter case, he/she should have sufficient
understanding of Statistical Inference, to carry out PhD work in
Mathematical Statistics.
