Identifying Relationships That Cannot Be Identified In Any Other Way
Presenter: Dr. Shenghan Lai of Johns Hopkins Medical School will discuss
Data Mining for Epidemiological Research.
Presentation Details:
Dr. Lai will discuss his use of data mining techniques to identify
relationships followed by his use of standard statistical techniques to
prove that such relationships are indeed true.
Dr. Lai will use as examples his research related to the Association
between Vitamin E and the development of myocardial infarction and the
association between regional heart function and coronary calcification.
SPEAKER BIO:
Dr. Shenghan Lai is an Associate Professor with the Johns Hopkins
University Medical School. He is also Director of the Biostatistics
Core within the Donald W. Reynolds Cardiovascular Clinical Research
Center at Hopkins. Dr. Lai is also a consultant to pharmaceutical
companies.
Dr. Lai has been doing data management and statistical analysis for more
than 15 years. In recent years, Dr. Lai has been implementing data
mining tools in diverse areas, including psychology, criminal justice,
psychiatry, epidemiology, cardiology, infectious diseases, cancer,
pediatrics, immunology, virology and laboratory medicine.
Dr. Lai received his degrees from Peking Union Medical College in
Beijing and the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in
Bethesda, Maryland.
