See, e.g. https://stat.ethz.ch/pipermail/

this implies that there were some legal problems regarding
the version posted, if not the algorithm itself per se. The links to download
gene-sig posted there are all broken, indicating that it has been withdrawn from
circulation.

Is it possible to obtain it? I do not see any patent problems. The algorith
is published and widely known. In fact, I am programming it myself now, but I
have some problems in understanding minor details.
