In S-Plus, the answer is always yes, it is possible. The extra information we need before responding to your query is "How did the NA get there?" Please send a trivial example to the list (3 or 4 lines of data) with a clear statement as to trailing blanks and end-of-line coding system (CR-LF for DOS or LF for Unix). Tell us what computer system you are using (specifically Windows or Unix), which version of S-Plus, and give us the command sequence that generated the data.frame (or click sequence if you did it with menus).
