Thanks everybody! it seems to work fine. I had been trying to import in .csv but at that time I still had the random seed problem that was making the import crash anyway. Thanks a lot guys! Stephane
Hi Stephane, I have had the problem in the past. some non technical fixes 1. do not import excel but csv / txt files. csv works best. 2. if possible upgrade to 6.2, these errors reduce dramatically then. 3. sometimes the data item is locked in the _data directory, so if you have everything in scripts and data, then you might want to delete the project and recreate it, then run the scripts again. 4. if you are getting the data from a sql server, check the flat file for any special characters. it occurs sometimes when data is got into a flat file from ms sql server. these worked for me in the past and i have had no problems since. I use the command rm(.Random.seed) that is suppposed to work ( http://www.biostat.wustl.edu/archives/html/s-news/2002-07/msg00168.html ) Nevertheless the problem keeps reapparing and worse after removing that seed I still cant import all teh data I want - S-plus crashes after a long time when I try to import not-too-big files (bet 3 and 5 MB) that it used to import without any problem. Thank you in advance for your help - these problems are totally really preventing me from working Stephane Zebouni This communication is for informational purposes only.
