Sorry for the repost, but I left off the subject line before...

Seth, I want to second what John Sorkin said about V.7 and the Insightful licensing practices. Even on the basis of functionality I have already reverted to v. 6.2 after getting the V.7 "upgrade", and will probably switch to R. I found that none of the annoying features of v.6.2 that I had been complaining about had been fixed in v. 7 (several previous messages in the archives on these). Thus, as far as my use of Splus is concerned, I gained nothing from the switch to v.7.

Not only can you not install v.7 on your desktop and laptop machines, but if for some reason you have to reinstall it you have to go through a big rigamarole with license keys or whatever they are called.

I don't know about the "big data library". I analyze data sets of 10s of MB and don't really have much of a problem. I would think $2200 would be better spent on more memory - and that is quite a load of memory!

Everybody has to decide for themselves, but since you asked for advice, mine is: don't do it!

Folks:
I need your urgent advise. My lab is about ordering s-plus 7.0, enterprise
edition. It is damn expensive.
In addition to the cost of the site license that my lab already has,
insightful wants me to pay $2200 for upgrade from professional to
enterprise. It is my understanding that the thing we are going to pay for is
the so called "big data library".
My question to all of your, smart people, is it really such a good thing,
this bigdata library, that worth $2200 on top of "professional" cost ?
Is there anything else particularly attractive in s-plus 7.0, as compared to
6.2?
Could you please share your experience?
Also, it is still kind of clouded for me whether or not I will have right
and technical ability to install this version on my laptop and my home
machine.
I remember some kind of discussion of this matter, but not sure what was the
conclusion.
Please, help. We need to BUY OR NOT TO BUY this THURSDAY at latest.
 THANKS!!!!
 Seth O'Beeth
