S-PLUS 7.0 Enterprise has many new capabilities compared to S-PLUS 6.2. The
main ones are:

- Pipeline Architecture and Big Data Library. This enables you to create
bdFrame objects (analagous to data frames) much larger than available RAM,
and manipulate and analyse them using standard and new S functions in S-PLUS.

- S-PLUS Workbench. This is a complete new graphical user interface
providing an integrated development environment for S programmers, including
a syntax-aware editor, program outline, syntax checker, and integration with
source code control systems.

S-PLUS users who need to analyze large data sets, or who program libraries of
S functions, have found S-PLUS Enterprise worth the upgrade fee.

These two features are available in S-PLUS Enterprise, but we also added many
other new capabilities to both S-PLUS Enterprise and S-PLUS Professional.

If you've purchased S-PLUS at an academic institution, you'll be able to
install S-PLUS at home free of charge (but since you're talking about an
upgrade fee, I'm guessing you're not -- the upgrade to Enterprise was free of
charge for academic institutions). At commercial organizations, home copies
are available for 1/5th the standard price (i.e. 80% discount).

Subject: [S] big data library for $2200

Folks:
I need your urgent advise. My lab is about ordering s-plus 7.0, enterprise
edition. It is damn expensive.
In addition to the cost of the site license that my lab already has,
insightful wants me to pay $2200 for upgrade from professional to
enterprise. It is my understanding that the thing we are going to pay for is
the so called "big data library".
My question to all of your, smart people, is it really such a good thing,
this bigdata library, that worth $2200 on top of "professional" cost ?
Is there anything else particularly attractive in s-plus 7.0, as compared to
6.2?

Could you please share your experience?

Also, it is still kind of clouded for me whether or not I will have right and
technical ability to install this version on my laptop and my home machine.
I remember some kind of discussion of this matter, but not sure what was the
conclusion.

Please, help. We need to BUY OR NOT TO BUY this THURSDAY at latest.

THANKS!!!!
