Hallo!
I have two populations of a target plant species in close spatial proximity
(assuming identical environmental conditions). A strong competitor is present
at one, but missing at the other population. In every population I have
presence/absence data of plant species around each individual of my target
species (and geographical coordinates of the targets if necessary). Of course,
I have only a subset of all individuals of the target species.
The species in the close surrounding of the individuals of my target species
are the environmental variables describing the ecological niche occupied by the
target. I regard the sample of the population without the competitor as
representative for the whole niche that could be occupied by the target species.
I would need a quantitative measure for the reduction of the niche occupied due
to the presence of the competitor, i.e. how much of the total niche occupied in
the population without the competitor is also occupied in the other population?
Can this be solved using S-Pluss 2000 oe R?
Any help would be very appreciated.
