S-Plus Memory

Hi,

I have a dataset (in SAS format) that I want to import into S+ 7.0
running on Windows XP with 1GB of memory.  The file is 480 MB. 
S-Plus won't read it because it reaches a memory limit.  I changed
option$bigdata.threshold to 500 MB but that didn't work because S-Plus
said that it couldn't "obtain requested dynamic memory". 
How can I read this data into S-Plus?

PS.  Does any one know the status of S-Plus 8??  Will/does 8
have memory issues?
