In R, I format text in graphics using bquote, e.g.:

bquote("Range of" ~ hat(Y) == .(SlopeText))

The goal is create text that looks like:

Range of y^ = 0.xx (where the hat is above the y).

I can't find a similar command within Splus 7.  Does one exist?
