Thread-topic: Question about nclass in hist

Dear Colleagues,

I am using the hist function with nclass equal to a fixed number in order to plot a histogram with a given number of classes.

Although the histogram I get usually has the number of classes I require, it sometimes does not (but it always seems to do a good job). According to the manuals, nclass works as “a recommendation”, so I understand it may be overridden; but when and how is it overridden?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Jose.
